Nigredo (Blackening) represents the initial phase of dissolution and confrontation with the shadow. It is the dark night of the soul where all false constructs must die. This stage demands radical honesty and the courage to face one's deepest fears and buried traumas.
Albedo (Whitening) follows as purification and illumination. After the death of the ego's illusions, clarity emerges. The psyche is washed clean, and the practitioner begins to perceive the archetypal structures underlying consciousness.
Citrinitas (Yellowing) marks the dawn of solar consciousness—the awakening of spiritual insight and the integration of wisdom. Here, the gold begins to manifest as inner illumination and authentic self-knowledge.
Rubedo (Reddening) is the final stage—the union of opposites, the wedding of soul and spirit, and the embodiment of the Philosopher's Stone. The practitioner achieves wholeness and becomes a living vessel of transformative power.
